A ship’s captain who was a friend of Tristan.
When Tristan was mortally wounded, he sent Genes to bring Isolde from Cornwall to heal him, but Genes and Isolde arrived too late; Tristan was already dead.
Genes’s daughter was also named Isolde. Genes is found in the Prose Tristan; in other romances, this ship’s captain is generally not named. In some texts, it is Kahedins, Tristan’s brother-in-law.
