Gwrfoddu Hên

‘Gwrfoddu the Old, Gwrfoddu the Elder’
Gwrbothu Hên, Gwrfoddhu, Gwrfoddu the Old, Gwrfoddw the Old, Gwrvoddw

Brother of Eigyr (Igraine), thus maternal uncle of Arthur, and one of Arthur’s warriors in Culhwch.

He was killed by the piglet Llwydawg the Killer at the battle of Ystrad Yw.


Note
A king by the name Gwrfoddw (610-615) were probably used as a base for this character.
Gwrfoddw (Latin: Gurvodius rex Ercyg) died about 619. He was the king of Ergyng, a kingdom in south-east Wales. He usurped the throne from Gwrgan ap Cynfyn.
