NIGHTBRINGER | The Arthurian Encyclopedia

Ignaures

This British knight was a popular lover, and fought in the Noauz tournament. His shield was half green and half azure, with a leopard on the green side.

D.D.R. Owen tells us that Ignaures and his amorous acitivites formed the subject of an anonymous lay. Looking at the letters in his name and tentatively sounding them out, I cannot help but wonder if some of Ignaures’ exploits could have gone into Gawaine’s later reputation.
