NIGHTBRINGER | The Arthurian Encyclopedia

Babian

A beautiful bird native to the land of Cluse (eventually ruled under Arthur by Daniel).

During the day, it hovered over the ladies of Cluse, providing shade; at night, it gave off light. It was possessed of a beautiful voice.

G. Rosenhagen suggests a derivation from papegân, German for ‘parrot’.
