Black Knight of the Fountain

Knight of the Fount, Knight of the Fountain

The Knight of the Fountain, the name given in the Welsh Triads to the Lord of the Fountain, guards a mystical fountain that is central to one of Ywaine’s quests.

The fountain is enchanted, and drinking from it grants invincibility for a day. Ywaine, being a valiant and noble knight, seeks to test his skills against the Knight of the Fountain and prove his mettle in the face of this formidable adversary.

The encounter with the Knight of the Fountain serves a significant episode in Ywaine’s journey of chivalry and heroism. It demonstrates Ywaine’s determination to face challenges head-on and his desire to uphold the ideals of knighthood and honor.

He is called Esclados by Chrétien de Troyes.
