Ebede

Äbädä

In the Tatar and Siberian mythology the Äbädä is a benign forest spirit with the looks of an old woman.

In the Turkic mythology he is a spirit or demon, protector of the forest animals, birds and trees. He is a humanoid with blue skin, great horns, green hair and long beard. He is a shapeshifter and carries a whip or a club. In his human form he is a peasant with his shoes on backwards, and glowing eyes.

To protect oneself from the Ebede is to turn all clothes inside out and backwards, and put the shoes on the opposite feet.
