In a poem in the Welsh Black Book of Carmarthen, Cei remarks that ‘though Arthur was but playing, blood was flowing in the hall of Afarnach, fighting with a hag’.
This passage may recall a familiar legend, represented in Culhwch and Olwen when Arthur kills the Black Hag.
