Introduction#
The Seat of Judgment was the judicial and governmental chamber of the Temple of the Sun in Sarras, the ancient eastern city closely associated with the Grail tradition.
The Temple of the Sun#
Before its conversion to Christianity, Sarras possessed a great temple dedicated to the Sun. The Seat of Judgment served as one of its principal chambers of rule and legal authority.
The city later became closely connected with Galahad and the culmination of the Grail Quest.
Significance#
Unlike the Siege Perilous, the Seat of Judgment was not a magical chair or place of trial for knights. The term “seat” here refers instead to authority, governance, and judgment within the sacred city of Sarras.
