Grail Tradition#
Like the later Siege Perilous of the Round Table, it could be occupied only by its destined occupant. The seat was reserved for Josephe, whose holiness and spiritual authority made him one of the central figures of the Grail tradition.
The Siege Redoutez forms part of the sacred ancestry of the Arthurian Grail legends, linking the Grail Table of the early Christians with the Round Table of Arthur’s court.
Significance#
The Siege Redoutez may be regarded as a predecessor to the Siege Perilous. Both seats represent divine election, spiritual purity, and the idea that certain places are reserved by providence rather than human choice.
