The Sword of Resolve is one of the prophetic weapons of the Grail romances. Closely connected with the early history of the Holy Grail, it appears in several episodes involving sacred kings, holy warriors, and divine judgment. The sword is remembered both for the wounds it inflicted and for the miracles surrounding its destruction and restoration.

According to the Grail tradition, the Sword of Resolve was the weapon used by the seneschal of Argon when he wounded Joseph in the thigh.
The identity of this Joseph varies somewhat between Grail texts, where the traditions surrounding Joseph of Arimathea and his descendants occasionally overlap. Regardless of the precise identification, the episode belongs to the sacred history of the Grail and foreshadows the later maimed kings and wounded guardians associated with it.
The wound forms part of a recurring Grail motif in which suffering, imperfection, and spiritual testing are carried through successive generations.
The sword later appeared aboard the mysterious Ship of Solomon. When Nascien discovered the vessel, he drew the sword and used it to slay a giant. During the encounter, however, the blade broke in two.
Afterward, Nascien himself received a wound through the thighs, continuing the pattern of sacred wounds associated with the Grail lineage and its guardians.
The breaking of the sword was said to have occurred not because of any weakness in the weapon itself, but because of a deeper divine purpose.
After the sword had been broken, King Mordrains examined it and joined the two pieces together once more.
The restoration was regarded as a miracle rather than an act of ordinary craftsmanship. Though whole again, the sword retained its prophetic character and remained connected to the unfolding destiny of the Grail.
The involvement of both Nascien and Mordrains further strengthened the weapon’s place within the sacred history of the Grail family.
Generations later, the Sword of Resolve appeared again during the Grail Quest.
Galahad encountered the weapon as part of the series of sacred objects linked to the Grail mysteries. By his time, the sword had become a symbol of fulfilled prophecy and divine election.
Like many Grail relics, its significance lay not in magical powers but in its connection to the holy lineage stretching from Joseph of Arimathea to the final achievement of the Grail.
The Sword of Resolve represents sacred history, suffering and restoration, divine judgment, fulfillment of prophecy, and the continuity of the Grail lineage.
Its story mirrors many of the central themes of the Grail romances, where broken things are restored, wounds are healed, and ancient prophecies are brought to completion.
