Asia

The Romans named a province Asia, which more or less corresponds with modern-day (central-eastern) Turkey. In the area of modern-day Iraq there was an Asia Minor and an Asia Major. Herodotus were the first continental to use the word Asia in writing (ca. 440 BC), but he was not the one who innovated the name.
