Marlborough

A town in Wiltshire whose borough arms bear the motto Ubi nunc sapientis ossa Merlini - 'Where now are the bones of wise Merlin'.

Until the fourteenth century, tradition stated that Merlin was buried under an earthen mound at the western end of the town, which now lies in the grounds of Marlborough College. The mound is simply called Merlin's Mound, and is said to be the origin of the city's name.
