Arcadius

Latin: Flavius Arcadius Augustus

A Roman Emperor between 395 and 408. He was the eldest son of Theodosius I and Aelia Flaccilla, his first wife, born in Hispania (Spain). His brother was the Western Emperor Honorius.

His father declared him an Augustus and co-ruler of the eastern half of the Empire in January, 383 and took over when his father died in 395. Ten years later his brother was declared Augustus for the western half. Arcadius was not a strong ruler, he was dominated by several powerful ministers and by his wife, Aelia Eudoxia.
