Cologne

Coloigne, Coloine

A city in the Rhine River in Germany.

In Chrétien's Cligés, it is the site of Emperor Alis's marriage to Fenice. In the Vulgate Lancelot, Cologne is named as the home of the scribe Arodian (Arodion) and the sage Agnatices (Agarnices). Claris et Laris puts it in the realm of Emperor Henry of Germany, Claris's father-in-law.

Malory tells us that Lucius the Roman besieged and won a castle in Cologne during his campaign against Arthur.

The birthplace of the ninth of the wise clerks whom Arthur sends to Galeholt. This must be the chief clerk of Duke Galeholt, Helyes of Thoulouse whom originated from Cologne.
