Fata Morgana

The Italian form of Morgan Le Fay who was believed to live in Calabria, a region of the southern Italy.

Legends concerning Morgan Le Fay, the sister of Arthur, under this name are found in Sicily, possibly being introduced by the Normans, who settled on the island.

The Italian term 'Fata Morgana' is still applied to a mirage, often seen in the Straits of Messina, which is traditionally ascribed to the sorcery of Morgan Le Fay. This mirage magnifies both vertically and horizontally, so that buildings appear like Morgan Le Fay's fairy palaces.
