Albany

Alban, Albanie, Arbanie

An archaic, post-Anglo-Saxon term, traditionally Irish in origin and derived from Alba, which is used to refer to Scotland, although it might equally well have derived from Albion.

Some texts refer to Albany as a Pictish kingdom within Scotland. Geoffrey of Monmouth says that it was named after Albanact, a son of Brutus. According to Yder, Albany was ruled by Nut, Yder’s father.
