Alphonso

Hero of Lambert A. Wilmer's drama Merlin (1827). Alphonso loved Elvira but obstacles barred their way. These were successfully overcome by Merlin.

This drama is especially interesting because Alphonso represents Edgar Allan Poe and Elvira a girl whom he loved, but whose parents forbade her marriage to him.
