Daniello

The Italian romance La Tavola Ritonda makes an interesting departure from the traditional Arthurian story when it places the discovery of the affair between Lancelot and Guinevere near the beginning or middle of Arthur’s reign, rather than at the end.

Here, their betrayer is not Mordred or Agravain, but Daniello, the cowardly brother of Dinadan and Brunor the Black. Daniello conspired to expose the affair, and roused thirty knights to capture Lancelot in Guinevere’s bedchamber. Lancelot slew Daniello and eight others, sparking a feud between Lancelot and Daniello’s brother, Brunor the Black.
