According to a poem attributed to Thomas the Rhymer, who was credited with prophetic powers and was supposed to have sojourned in Fairyland, Arthur will awake and defeat the Saxons, uniting Britain.

Thomas himself in folklore appears to have replaced Arthur as the one who will come to drive out the English.
