Malory names Sir Bleoberis de Ganis as its lord. The abbey of Ganis is nearby. Bleoberis was the godson of King Bors of Gaul (Gannes), the father of Bors de Ganis. I am not sure whether the "Ganis" of Sir Bors' name refers to this castle, which is apparently in Britain, or to his native land across the Channel.
Carew, in his Survey of Cornwall, notes that Cornish residents believe that the local place name Bodrugan is a degeneration of Bors de Ganis. Bodrugan is in about the south center of modern Cornwall, in the division called Powder Hundred, on the east side of Dodman Point.
