Grocland

An island in the polar regions, colonized by Arthur, according to the Itinerary of Jacob Cnoyen.

It may be identical with Greenland. The Itinerary claims that its inhabitants were twenty-three feet tall and that Arthur conquered the northern islands in about AD 530. There was a mountain range surrounding the Pole and channels went through this to form four indrawing seas. Four thousand of Arthur's men went into the indrawing seas, but none returned.

In 1364, seven of these people, plus one of Flemish descent, were thought to have presented themselves at the court of King Magnus of Norway. In any case, the date is certainly wrong for, at this time, Norway was ruled by King Haakon VI. The 'King Magnus' mentioned was presumably his predecessor, Magnus VII (reigned 1319-55).
