   A nickname for Gawain, alluding originally to his reputation as a playboy. However, in the Post-Vulgate Suite du Merlin, Gawain adopts the name after he accidentally kills the maiden lover of Blamoure and swears to help all damsels in distress from then on.

   When Guiron the Courteous first arrived at King Uther Pendragon’s court, he was accompanied by over a dozen young maidens, thus earning himself this nickname.
