Magouns Castle
Magance
A castle in Sussex which Malory identifies as
a castle that is called Magouns, and now it is called Arundel, in Sussex.
When Prince Bodwyne (Boudwin) was killed by King Mark of Cornwall, Bodwyne's wife, Dame Angledis (Anglides), fled to the castle with her infant son, Alexander the Orphan.
The constable of Magouns, Berengier, a vassal of Angledis's father, Ranner, watched over the lady and her son (Berengier was also Angledis' cousin). Alexander was raised here until he became a knight.
Traitorous knights within the castle told Mark of Alexander's existence, however, and later helped Mark in his plots to murder Tristan.
