Maledisant

    1. Maledisant

The damsel helped by Breunor the Black.

At first Maledisant was abusive to Breunor, presumably as he refused to remove his ill-fitting coat, which had earned him the nickname La Cote Male Tailée, until he had avenged his father. However, Maledisant obviously changed her opinion of him, for she subsequently married him.

    2. Maledisant's Shield

A great black shield, with a white hand in the midst holding a sword. The damsel Maledisant (later called Beauvivante) brought it to Arthur's court, seeking a knight to fulfill the quest of the shield's dead owner. Sir La Cote Male Taile took the quest. Malory's account leaves the quest unclear. Breuse Sans Pitie had once taken the shield from Maledisant, and Tristram had regained it for her that time.
