Modron

Ancient Welsh goddess, daughter of Avalloc (Affalach), whose name simply means 'Mother'. She is apparently a form of the Celtic goddess Matrona, the Roman name for the Great Mother Goddess.

Her divine child was known as Mabon the Enchanter, which in turn simply means 'son' or 'son of the Mother'.

She is thought to be the prototype of the Arthurian Morgan Le Fay, though some Welsh sources makes her the mother of a daughter named Morfudd, and a son named Owain, the son of Urien of Rheged. She may also be the origin of the Lady of the Lake.
