    'The Narrow March' | the Streite Marche

    The lord of Lestroite Marche held it against the King of Norgales, the Duke of Cambeninc, and the King of the Hundred Knights with the latter's seneschal Marganor, putting the castle somewhere in the marches between Norgales and Cambenet.


  2. l'Estroite Marche, Lord of

    The lord of Lestroite Marche had one child, a daughter, who for some reason could not hold the castle after him. To help defend the castle and try to find his daughter a good husband at the same time, this lord established the custom that any knight who accepted his hospitality must spend half a day defending the castle. Ector de Maris, at that time a Queen's Knight, vanquished Marganor and restored peace to the area, although he cried off from marrying the damsel by pleading that he already had a lady.


  3. l'Estroite Marche, Damsel of

    For some reason, although other damsels and ladies acted as apparently independent chatelaines, this damsel could not hold her father's castle in her own right after his death. The lord of Lestroite Marche therefore tried to find her a good husband by insisting that each of his knightly guests spend half a day defending the castle.

    The damsel fell in love with Ector de Maris, who defeated Sir Marganor during his half-day's service; Ector hedged by telling her he already had a lady. Then the damsel gave him a ring with a stone that had the power to make the man who recieved it love with ever-increasin force the woman who gave it.
