Belenos

Belos, Belus

One of the most widespread of all Celtic gods, whose variant name, Belenos, was most widely used in Alpine regions, particularly Noricum, of which Belenos was the tutelary deity.

The representation of the power of light, the word bel meaning ‘bright’ or ‘brilliant’, Bel has many solar attributes. It was these that led him to be identified, on both sides of the English Channel, with the Roman god Apollo during the time of the Roman occupation.
