Angaras of Karamphi

Son of the lord of Karamphi in Heinrich von dem Türlin’s Diu Crône

Gawain had killed his brother Dahamorth, so he attacked Gawain when the latter was visiting Karamphi. Angaras’s father stopped the fight, but as a condition of his freedom, Gawain had to perform a service for Angaras: to learn all that he could about the mystic Grail.

At the conclusion of the romance, Gawain satisfied this requirement. Angaras and Gawain became friends, and Angaras was awarded a place at the Round Table.

His counterpart in Wolfram von Eschenbach’s Parzival is Vergulaht.
