Catuvellauni
Catuvellani
A tribe of Britons who inhabited a large area between the Thames and Cambridgeshire at the time of the Roman invasion in AD 43, their capital perhaps being situated near what is today known as Saint Albans.
At the time of the first unsuccessful invasion led by Julius Caesar, their king was Cassivelaunus, who led a fierce fight against the invaders before being captured and handed over to the Romans by Cartimandua, Queen of the Brigantes. He was pardoned by Claudius (Claudas).
