The Didot-Perceval names "the Sultan" as an ally of the Emperor of Rome.

He was slain by Gawain during the Roman War. The Roman Emperor was married to the Sultan’s daughter.

Perceval may be referring to the Sultan of Syria, who appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth’s version. In one manuscript, he is called the Amiraut, or Emir.
