Chaleins

Chalaunce, Chaulaunce

The Duke of Clarence and Knight of the Round Table. He appears later at the healing of Sir Urry (Urre of Hungary).

Chaleins appears at Duke Galeholt’s tournament in Surluse (Sorelois), where he did

great deeds of arms, and of so late as he came in the third day there was no man did so well except King Bagdemagus and Sir Palomides.

To this tourney he brings along a knight called Elis la Noire.

Chaleins appears again at a tournament given by Arthur on Candlemas Day following the death of Elaine of Astolat; to this tourney he brings a hundred knights.

He could be identified with the Vulgate’s Galeshin.
