In the Hebrew Melekh Artus, the lord of Astolat, father of Edelpert, Karavoç, and presumably – though she is not named in the text – Elaine.
This character appears unnamed in the Vulgate Mort Artu and as Bernard of Astolat in Malory. The author may have adopted the name from the popular French hero, Lanval.
