Orcades

Morchades, Orchades

Appearing in some translations of Diu Crône, this alternative for Morgause (Margawse) appears to have been derived from Orcades, the Latin for her husband Lot’s realm of the Orkneys.

Some commentators think that this was the first translation of her name, and that the variant Morchades came later in an attempt to bring her name more into line with Morgause. This theory is, however, open to speculation.
