Turnes of Blakamannavellir

A pirate king who attacked and pillaged Spain, forcing King Biríng (Tristan’s foster-father) to flee. Turnes kidnapped the young Tristan and sold him as a slave to a band of pirates.

The name of his land means “Black Men’s Plains” and probably signifies Africa (Hill, 197).
