Old Table

Tavola Vecchio

Italian literature distinguishes between the Tavola Vecchio (“Old Table”) and the Tavola Nuovo (“New Table”); that is, the Round Table fellowships commanded by Uther Pendragon and Arthur.

Uther’s Old Table seems to have been composed primarily of strong and crude knights (fifty in all), while Arthur’s New Table was known for its justice, courtliness, and virtue.

Examples of Old Table knights include AbironBranor the Brown, and Caradoc the Thirteenth.
