Shield of Lancelot

This shield is typically emblazoned with a red cross on a white background, symbolizing Lancelot’s unwavering faith and devotion.

A description of another shield tells us it is adorned with three crowns symbolizing his prowess in battle.

Lancelot left his own shield with Elaine of Astolat while he borrowed her brother’s. Elaine nurtured her love for Lancelot while caring for his shield. She found out from Gawain – who recoginized the device – the identity of her hero, and eventually died of love.
