Isle Estrange

“Strange Island”
Estrangor, Estrangot, Illes Estrange, l’Eisle Estrange, l’Isle Estrange, Lo Leu Estrange

This is the kingdom and/or castle of King Vagor, who kept Lionel a prisoner. Lionel was to fight the king’s son, Marabron, but as Lionel was injured, Lancelot acted successfully as his substitute. The castle was strong, with but one narrow entrance.

The name suggests an island or perhaps a valley. The place is probably small, and may be near the Forest of the Boiling Well. It is probably close to Carteloise Forest in southern Scotland.
