Kynke Kenadonne

Kink Kenadon, Kynkenadon

A castle near the border of Wales.

Malory tells us it is a city and castle “upon the sands that marched nigh Wales,” and that “there is a plentiful country” around it. Malory seems to mention this city only in the story of Gareth and Lynette, who were married here.

Not being a Welsh scholar, I can only suggest it be identifed with Carnarvon city in present-day Carnarvon County. This sounds like a good old name, and Arthur seems to prefer cities beginning with “C,” or at least the hard “C” sound, for his major courts. Arthur had the habit to to celebrate Whitsun there and not sit down at the table until he had witnessed or heard of a remarkable adventure.
