Mên-an-Tol, Men-an-Tol
Men Amber is a unique megalithic monument in Cornwall, near Nancegollen.
Consisting of three upright stones, with a circular, holed stone in the center, it is believed to date back to the Bronze Age, making it several thousand years old. The holed stone is the most distinctive feature and is sometimes referred to as a “logan stone” because of its ability to rotate or rock when touched.
According to folklore, Merlin prophesied that the stone would remain balanced as long as there was a king in England.
During the English Civil War in the seventeenth century, which resulted in the establishment of the English Commonwealth and the removal of the monarchy, the Cromwellians reportedly damaged or partially dismantled the monument due to its symbolic significance.
