The Doward
Welsh: Ysgyryd Fawr
Cloard, Cloaricus, Droac
A prominent limestone hill located in the Wye Valley, near Symonds Yat, near the border between Herefordshire and Monmouthshire.
This was the site of Vortigern’s castle, Ganarew.
The name “Doward” likely has Celtic origins, as is common with many place names in Wales.
