A British hermitage where Yvain (Ywaine) lodged during an adventure.
From the hermit, he learned of the evil wrought by Malduit the Giant (Mauduit), and set out to slay the giant.
Malduit is depicted as a fearsome and powerful opponent, an adversary who is not only physically imposing but also cunning and dangerous. In the story, Yvain faces the challenge of defeating the giant, and their encounter becomes a significant test of Yvain’s strength and prowess as a knight.
In some versions of the story, Yvain is able to defeat the giant through his exceptional martial skills, while in others, he may receive aid from magical or divine sources.
