Hautdesert

One can assume that Sir Bertilak de Hautdesert, alias the Green Knight of the famous metrical romance, took his surname from the name of his castle.

According to Sir Gawaine and the Green Knight, the castle is less than two miles from the Green Chapel. Helen Hill Miller puts the Green Chapel at a certain deep ravine below Leek Moor, northern Staffordshire.
