The earth mother of Irish mythology who is better known as Dana or Danu, though in this form she would appear to be the origin of Anna, the sister of Arthur. Many sources dispute the true name of this deity, some saying that Anu was the original name, and Danu the corruption, whilst an equal number argue the opposite.
Lewis Spence quotes one R. Briffault, in a work titled ‘The Mothers’ (London, 1927), as calling Anu Arthur’s sister.
