Asag

In Sumerian mythology, Asag is a powerful and malevolent demon associated with chaos, disease, and destruction. Asag is depicted as a monstrous creature, often described as having a hideous and deformed appearance.

One of the most well-known myths involving Asag tells of a great battle between him and the god Ninurta. Asag sought to overthrow the gods and bring chaos to the world. In the epic battle that ensued, Ninurta eventually triumphed over Asag, using his divine powers to defeat the demon and restore order to the universe.

Asag is often depicted as a symbol of the forces of darkness and disorder that threaten the natural order of the cosmos. He is typically portrayed as a cunning and malevolent entity who seeks to bring harm and suffering to humanity.

Throughout Sumerian literature, Asag serves as a powerful metaphor for the struggle between good and evil, order and chaos. His defeat at the hands of Ninurta represents the triumph of order and divine justice over chaos and malevolence.
