As the festivities of Erec’s Pentecost wedding wound down, a tournament was arranged to be held between Evroic and Tenebroc in about a month. Gawaine acted as its sponsor or guarantor on one side, Meliz and Meliadoc on the other.
Unless “Meliz” is a name contraction for “Meliant of Liz,” or unless we have here another case of postponed naming, if Chrétien has given us any earlier glimpse of either Meliz or Meliadoc, I somehow missed it despite all my pains.
